#ShopLocalGiveBack - Chianti Cafe and Restaurant
Tuesday December 11 , 2018
Chianti Cafe and Restaurant has long been a staple in Edmonton – even before it became Chianti! Their location was originally built as the Edmonton Post Office, which was a hub for Edmontonians in the early 1900’s. The lofty space changed gears over the years, but eventually settled into one of the longest-standing restaurants in Old Strathcona. The recipe behind their success? Good food, good value, and a healthy dose of being involved and giving back to the community.
We sat down and chatted with one of the owners, Ken Rubuliak, about his philosophy on giving back through his business. “Pretty much anyone that contacts us who is a bona fide non-profit organization, we will assist in their fundraising efforts on an in-kind basis, if we can. Anything that’s health, arts, or sports-related, that we can help through door prizes, silent auctions, in-kind food sponsorship, things like that. Some days we get a dozen requests, if you can believe it. We’re always happy to help. It makes sense. A lot of the events that we sponsor are going on in our own backyard. We’re also not exclusive to any one organization, we just want to support things that are bringing value to our community at large -which in turn builds relationships that will get people coming back to visit us!”
Chianti’s is a generous sponsor of the Stollery Snowflake Gala, and the Stollery Children’s Hospital as a whole. A dollar from every meal sold from the kid’s menu goes directly to the hospital, and their restaurant regularly sees hospital staff and families of patients in for the hearty Italian food Chianti’s is known for.
They have been passionate supporters of the Edmonton International Fringe Festival since 1987, they’ve fed the artists and volunteers of the Whyte Avenue ArtWalk, supported Ronald McDonald House, various sports teams, our bustling theatre community, Freewill Shakespeare Festival in Hawrelak Park, and the list goes on. Chianti’s is entrenched in our community for good reason – they’ve helped build it by supporting the things that make it great!
You can enjoy their casual Italian dining any day of the week, but we recommend popping in on Monday and Tuesday to take in their Pasta Frenzy specials. They’re also running a gift card promotion where you purchase $100 or more in gift certificates and receive an additional 25% MORE on top of that for FREE!
